本文用紙のカノープスは、書き心地の柔らかさ、幅広いインクへの対応、発色の美しさを求め、試作と検証の末にたどり着いた紙です。山本紙業の今のベストを尽くしました。インクの濃淡shading や光沢sheeningなど、カラーインクを楽しむのに最適です。

Passion for a new paper

Cosmo Air Light received high praise from fountain pen fans at the 2019 San Francisco Pen Show. But in 2022, its production came to an end, and we found ourselves adrift in search of a worthy replacement.
Yamamoto Paper knew that the substitute offered by Nippon Paper couldn’t recapture the magic. Determined to revive that feeling, we pursued the creation of a new paper—though the road was far from easy.
As Japan’s paper industries faced machine shutdowns and product consolidation, developing something new was a daunting challenge. Still, we believed in the craftsmanship and passion of Japanese papermakers.
With that conviction, Yamamoto Paper dedicated three years to this project—driven by the hope of sharing that passion with the world once again.

新しい紙への情熱

2019年、サンフランシスコペンショーで多くの筆記ファンから絶賛を浴びた「コスモエアライト」。しかし、その輝きは2022年に製造終了という形で幕を下ろしました。あの日から、私たちは長い時を彷徨いました。日本製紙が後継品とした紙では、あの感動を再び呼び起こすには到底及ばない、そう確信した山本紙業は、新たな紙を生み出すべく研究と探求を重ねてきました。しかし、その道は決して平坦なものではありませんでした。
国内の製紙業界は、時代の波に抗いながらも、生き残りをかけて古い抄紙機の停止や廃棄、多品種の紙の統廃合を進めています。そんな厳しい環境の中で、新しい紙に挑むということは至難の業でした。それでも、日本の製紙技術者たちが産み出す品質と紙一枚に込める情熱を受け止め、世界に伝えることこそが山本紙業の使命であると信じ、3年の歳月をかけこのプロジェクトに持てるすべての力を注ぎました。

 

CANOPUS 73gsm

CANOPUS NOTE has plain pages, and come with 6 mm squared /12 mm lined guide sheet.  We discussed which GSM is the best for notebooks, to be accepted by notebooks fans of all over the world. Then we dicided 73.0gsm in terms of writing feeling and condition of seeing throuth the guide sheet.
CANOPUS is categorized as micro corted high-bulk paper - paper that is thick but light. Thickness of 73GSM is 120±3μm. it's the same as corted paper 150.0GSM. In other words, CANOPUS is more 50% lightter than matte corted paper regardless of the same thickness.

本文は用途制限せず自由に使えるように無地にしました。そして12mm罫線／6mm方眼の下敷きを付属しています。本文の厚みを選定する際は何度も使用テストを重ねました。世界のノートファンから認められる事、下敷きの透け具合、書き心地など様々な観点から検討した結果73.0g/㎡を採用しました。
カノープスは日本が世界に誇る「嵩高」製紙技術から産まれた紙です。73.og/㎡の厚みは120±3μmで、コート紙の場合ではおおよそ150.0g/㎡に相当します。つまり比較すると、同じような厚みでありながらカノープスは約50%も軽い紙なのです。したがってCANOPUS NOTEは本文の質感・ボリュームの割には非常に軽いノートと言えます。

 

Section sewn binding

CANOPUS NOTE is sewn in sections along the spine for a sturdy finish. Section sewing provide CANOPUS NOTE widely openable between centerfolds without sacrificing strength.
□製本：糸かがり
毎日何回も開いて閉じる。180度ノド元までフラットに開く、あるいは360度折り曲げる。ノートは過酷な環境にも耐えうる製本が求められます。CANOPUS NOTEは「糸かがり」という方式で製本されています。すべてのページにわたって縫い糸が約15mmごとに12か所も通されており、永い時間が経過してもページが外れたりしません。ハードカバー書籍や手帳も糸かがり製本が採用されています。
□製本：背ならし
糸かがり工程後、均等に背に圧力を加えて、紙の反発やふくらみを抑えます。この“背ならし”を複数回おこなうことによって、角がしっかり立った美しいフォルムのCANOPUS NOTEの姿ができあがります。
□製本：角丸
さらにノート小口天地は角丸加工を施しています。これによりノートの角が折れ曲がる事を防いでいます。ほんの些細な加工かもしれませんが、長期間使用するうちに大きな差が生まれます。

Why was the paper named "CANOPUS"？

     Canopus — a star shining with the second brightest light in the night sky, lying some 310 light-years away. Its dazzling brilliance has earned it the names “Star of Longevity” and “Old Man Star” in Japan, believed to be the origin of the Seven Lucky Gods. Legends tell us that Canopus disappears during times of war and unrest, only returning when peace prevails — a celestial omen of harmony. When this star graces the heavens, people have gazed upon it with prayers for happiness and long life. Yet, from the Northern Hemisphere, where Japan lies, it is a rare treasure, barely visible below the northern limit of latitude 37.9°. So rare is its beauty that some journey across the world to the Southern Hemisphere just to witness its gentle glow.
     After a long voyage of study and discovery — filled with challenges and wonder — we encountered this beautiful paper. In honor of that journey, and with a heartfelt wish for joyful moments born from writing and drawing, we have named this beautiful paper "CNOPUS."

なぜこの紙はカノープスと名付けられたのでしょうか？

カノープスは約310光年の彼方にある全天で2番目の明るさを持つ星です。 強く眩しい光を放っており、日本では「寿星」や「老人星」とも言われています。七福神の「福禄寿」と「寿老人」の起源とされています。 また、戦争や騒乱時にはこの星は見えず 『天下が泰平になると見える』 との言い伝えがあり、この星が見えると幸福や長寿を祈ったと言われています。 カノープスを見ることができる北限は北緯37.9度であることから、日本を含む北半球においては非常に見つけることが難しい星です。 その美しい姿を見るために南半球を旅する人も少なくありません。
私達は研究と探求の繰り返しといった難航を経て辿り着いた経緯と、『書く・描く』ことから生まれる平和な時間を願い、この美しい紙に「カノープス」と名づけたのです。
